Magda, Team and Service Manager, Recruitment, HR Service Center Kraków

I’ve been part of the UPM team for over eight years. Initially my role at the HR Service Center in Krakow focused mostly on supporting UPM employees and managers around the world (including North America, South America and Europe) in all HR-related processes – from recruitment to personnel administration.

During this time, I was also involved in onboarding new joiners, implementing training courses and troubleshooting system- and process-related issues in the recruitment and learning area. Apart from that, I helped promote creativity in our team and encouraged good time management practices as part of our internal company projects.

After around five years, I was offered an opportunity to coordinate a newly forming global recruitment team. I really liked the fact that I was heavily involved in the team-building process early on. For about two years I was responsible for hiring senior-level employees in all our countries of operation. It was an amazing chance to get to know and work closely with people in such high-ranking positions as senior manager, vice president or director at UPM locations around the world.

Since October 2021, I’ve been leading a team that supports recruitment processes in Poland, Germany as well as North and South America. It is a new role for me, so I've been learning a lot recently, but my previous operational experience has proved very useful too. My main task is to make sure that the members of my team feel comfortable and confident in their jobs, that they develop their skills and know where to look for help. As Recruitment Service Manager, I am also responsible for implementing UPM’s global recruitment strategy in our centre in Kraków – in short, I ensure that all the processes are carried out as planned and our employees are properly trained. The role allows me to influence the way recruitment processes work at UPM, which I really enjoy.

As you can see, my career path at UPM has been one of constant change and development. I always tell my employees that if they want to try something new, to take the initiative, they will receive such opportunities in our company. For example, you can take part in different cross-team projects and broaden your horizons by doing things in other areas or for other countries than the ones listed in your job description.

What I value about UPM is the fact that we work together to create a positive environment for us all – by making joint decisions and listening to each other. Having a supportive team that helps each other out when needed is really important to me. I receive constant support from my supervisor, mentor and management team – we keep in close touch and discuss different matters together. I feel that I can rely on my colleagues and it increases my motivation to grow and learn. I do my best to make my team feel the same way.
