Hi! We are Arttu, Saara, and Sanni. We started as Summer Trainees at Tampere Finance & Control in April and have had a wonderful summer. This has really been a summer of finding our career paths and in this article, we explore the main takeaways of the summer. But first let's make sure you know us a little better.
Arttu is an enthusiastic student that is really into finance and starts his fourth year of studies at the Tampere University studying Industrial Engineering and Management this fall. Saara is finishing her Business Studies at LUT University with her major being in Accounting and she is really into sports during her free time. Sanni is a fresh graduate from Oulu Business School who majored in Accounting as well, and she likes to exercise and especially dance during her free time. We started our journey together and had each other's backs during the scary first weeks. The onboarding was well put together and we got to see a lot of different businesses and got a great overview of the whole company. UPM is the largest employer that we have had, and it has been great to see how things work in a large organization.
After onboarding we split up into different teams that fit well into our interests and previous experiences. Arttu ended up in more of a project type of work and his days mostly made up of taking part in bigger development projects, improving different spreadsheets, as well as tax monitoring. Saara and Sanni had more tasks related to the financial closing process and monthly recurring tasks. Saara's days were mostly made up of reporting delivery and production figures, answering statistic inquiries, and monitoring different accounts and profit centers. Sanni got to get familiar with asset accounting principles, preparing mill reports, and having notable responsibilities during the financial closing. We got a warm welcome in all our teams and we have been trusted to be in charge of different responsibilities. As a result of this trust, we have been able to show and develop our expertise. The different responsibilities and practical work in our own field has broadened our understanding of the bigger picture. During the summer we have had the pleasure of meeting plenty of driven experts in their own fields and that has really given us a fantastic opportunity to network.
