Dagmara Matyśniak, Project Manager, Sourcing & Indirect Procurement Operations, UPM Business Hub Wrocław

I joined UPM in 2007, starting out as a Project Accountant at UPM Raflatac. Back then, I didn’t know much about UPM as an employer, but it seemed exciting to join the company at the very beginning of its presence in Poland and co-create its future from scratch.

Today, I work as a Project Manager at UPM’s Source-to-Pay organization within UPM Business Hub. In my current role, I have a lot of opportunities to develop my competencies – such as communication, influencing skills, change management, emotional intelligence, conceptual thinking – and also my knowledge of the Sourcing and Procurement area.

What I like most about working at UPM is the sense of empowerment. Here, you won’t be given a step-by-step instruction on how to reach your goal. You need to figure it out on your own. Instead, you will be shown where to go, which direction to take. Your manager is there to support you in your journey, not to control you.

I have always had a feeling that UPM provides me with opportunities if I ask for it. It is just a matter of realizing your own strengths and capabilities, and UPM will help you make the best use of them! I have had excellent and inspiring leaders who have supported me in my growth at UPM. Here, I have always felt heard and valued as an individual.

In the past, I was given a lot of opportunities to go on business trips to many interesting places. I visited UPM in Brazil, USA, China and a few European locations. At that time, as someone with no family obligations, I enjoyed the trips, visiting new places and meeting interesting people. Most of the work relationships I built around that time are still going strong today. Now that I have my own family and face daily challenges as a working parent, I do appreciate the work-life balance, which UPM helps me to maintain. I celebrate small successes in everyday working life, positive feedback, inspiring discussions with colleagues, moments when I recognize that I could contribute to someone’s success. These are all energy boosters for me.

Working at UPM is never boring. There are a lot of opportunities to try out new things and get out of your comfort zone. On the other hand, my job at UPM brings stability to my life. As a financially strong, reliable and responsible employer with traditions, UPM is a good choice for a long-term career development.
